Korbflechter is a tattoo- and fine artist who lives and works in Mannheim,Germany.
tra speranza, lontananza e arrivo
A personal reflection on the visual representation of so called "migration issues", based on a journey through southern Italy. During his journey, Funk interviewed sea rescue NGOs, actors in socio-political movements, and opponents of Italy's right-wing nationalist government. His images are not an attempt at a complete representation but serve as field research into how journalistic topics can also be translated abstractly and artistically without leaving the realm of factuality.
Xatar live in Berlin
Xatar (born in 1981 as Giwar Hajabi in Sanandaj) became one of the most distinctive voices in German hip-hop. As the child of Kurdish refugees, raised in Bonn, he fused the legacy of migration and the struggle for social ascent with the rawness of street rap. With Alles oder Nix Records, he shaped the scene and launched numerous influential artists. This reportage follows him during his last concert in Berlin; the final performance before his death. An evening that once more revealed his presence, his role as a voice for a community, and the quiet weight of a life lived between myth and reality.
Lützerath
The sky is overcast. Lützerath appears gray, wet, but confident. For four days, police have been clearing out the climate activists who have been actively fighting against the open-cast mining operations of the energy company RWE in this small town for years. But now Lützerath is also falling victim to the excavator shovels. An estimated 35,000 climate activists came to Lützerath on January 14 to send a message. They called for immediate climate change and protested against the continued mining of lignite at RWE's Garzweiler II open-cast mine. The protests were met with harsh police violence.
Pfingstfest
For over ten years, Jonathan Funk has been documenting the hardcore and DIY concert scene in the Rhine-Neckar district of southern Germany. The images shown here are a small selection from a weekend at the Pfingstfest Festival 2024. With his pictures, Funk is creating a long-term historical archive of a scene that, between ecstasy, passion, and self-efficacy, pursues a counter-pole to the commercial music industry.
Second round
2025, Friedrich Merz became the first chancellor candidate in history to be elected to the German Bundestag at the second attempt. His campaign was marked by calculated flirtations with the far right and a steady reliance on populist tropes, blurring the line between conservative mainstream and extremist rhetoric. Against this backdrop, Funk pursued his long-term project Ortskontrollfahrt, documenting the ongoing shift to the right within German society. Along the way, he captured rare glimpses behind the scenes of Merz’s campaign, where the mechanics of this transformation became strikingly visible.

When old and new are to be merged into a single district, tensions can arise. Or, if all parties involved engage in constructive dialogue, it can lead to a very productive collaboration. Issue 26 of stadt:pilot magazine features a report from Mannheim-Käfertal on just such a case.
OG Lu
