Jonathan Funk is a freelance photographer from Mannheim, Germany.
His work focuses on documentary photography, portraiture and editorial.
He currently lives in Hanover, where he is studying documentary photography and photojournalism.

Influenced by his professional experience in social work, his projects focus primarily on sociocultural and sociopolitical topics. He always places his images in an overall social context and likes to break with common narratives. In his visual storytelling, he takes a broad view of the scenes, places and people around him. This approach gives him the opportunity to tell the subtext of the captured scenes beyond the scope of a single photo.

In 2024, he was awarded a scholarship from the Hans-Böckler-Foundation, which allows him to dedicate himself full-time to the further development of his photographic journey.

He is available for assignments.
